Shanon's Story

Hi everybody here in Port Orchard~ it's been along time since I've seen anybody~lost all contact with friends and then some...just moved back to the area after 25 + years and I forgot how beautiful it is here and boy has it grown. I love being back in the area and enjoy being where all my family is on a daily basis. Well for me, It's been along journey of life some good /some bad and ain't that the truth for most of us? I went to Cedar Heights Junior High and South Kitsap High school seems like many, many moons ago and I think those were the best years of my life (at that time!) Then real life was thrown upon me and the journey began~ I married a Navy man and would like to say I traveled near & far but that's not so....it was tough being young with my first daughter and being alone while my husband was out to sea for 6-9 months at a time. Then the day came after 2 years of marriage when I got word he was in a car accident and didn't survive. My life changed before my eyes and one day you wake up and get on with it...3 years later I was in another relationship that moved me to Shelton, Wa then I was blessed with my 1st son and two step sons~ holy moly what did I get myself into lol.... I started my career in management/customer service at the local Walmart in Shelton Wa and then was asked to go to Chehalis, Wa in hopes of getting a promotion....I packed up my family and we moved to that area and spent the next 11 years with the Chehalis, Wa Walmart and then along came my youngest daughter by then I was almost 35 years old. What the hell was I thinking? People asked me "Why did you do that?"My only response was it wasn't planned but it's the best unplanned thing to happen in my life at the age of 35 lol. She was about 8 months old when we lost our oldest son(my step son) to a rare form of cancer at a young age of 9~it was the saddest thing I've ever seen. It was fast & mean and something I hope to never, never experience again. So once again I woke up sometime later (not making light of the situation) it's just that life goes on~ so in the 11 years I was living in Centralia,wa & working at the Chehalis Walmart ~I completed my management training/ food school, because we were becoming a Supercente...Expand for more
r so I had to do food school. & I learned to speak, read & write Spanish (Hola!)~ with lots of help from my boy friend and some basic classes. Then again life moves on and I find myself wanting to go back to the Shelton area~ and I did just that~ put my transfer in and away we go. Not that easy, there were some bumps along the way...but that's life right? As life goes on I finally give in and marry my babies father then life throws me another for unseen curve ball that will haunt me for the rest of my life...you have to of been through it to understand what I mean. I'm 45 years old and 1 month from being with Walmart 15 years~ thinking life is good and I got this~ I wake up at 3 a.m in the middle of having a stroke....Wow is all I can really say.....my independence is stripped from me, every waking moment is scary & humiliating to say the least. 2 months later I'm still in the hospital going through physical therapy + 2 times daily and I hated it! (at that moment) but through all that hatred & resisting I learned to walk, talk, eat and except the fact that I am retired at the age of 45...Who retires at the age of 45? That has been a big thing for me, I loved to work and then I found face book lol...actually it's been great therapy for the mind and my oldest daughter introduced it to me about 1 year after i had the stroke ~ 3 years of physical therapy and I have gained back all my independance, strength, faith and willingness to live again, I can now say I am Shanon and I fill normal once again~ unfortunately my husband couldn't take all the changes & responsibilities and I let him move on. Over the years I always pondered the idea of moving back to Port Orchard, just never did it until now...thought it was along time coming...Love what the area has become and love being around my family. I need to get out and see friends and more family.... I have reconnected with several people and friends from my past through facebook & internet and now I'm watching my youngest who is attending Cedar Heights meet friends and through all that found that she is friends with daughters of my friends from the past. Life is full of journeys & chapters. I hope this chapter in my life is a good one. Blessed be all.
